What You'll Learn
Difficult conversations are an unavoidable part of an appraiser’s work. Managing client expectations, perspectives on equipment values from varying stakeholders, and partner relationships, often under the context of tight timelines and transaction related pressures can quickly become challenging, especially when professional judgment, financial interests, and strong emotions intersect.
Get Unstuck introduces a practical, mediative approach to navigating these conversations. Participants will learn how to look beneath stated positions, identify the interests and emotions driving a disagreement, and create the conditions for more constructive and productive dialogue.
Drawing on Jasen Kisber’s experience in equipment appraisal, industrial auctions, mediation, strategic planning, facilitation, leadership development, and executive coaching, the presentation offers frameworks and tactics that appraisers can apply immediately in their professional relationships.
Attendees will gain practical insights into:
- The Mediative Mindset: Approaching conflict with curiosity, separating positions from interests, surfacing underlying issues, and working toward a genuine win-win.
- The Four Ps of Conflict™: Understanding the Prize, Process, Principles, and Psychology present in every negotiation or difficult conversation.
- Holding Space: Creating an effective container for conversations involving strong feelings, competing perspectives, and professional pressure.
- The Coaching Questions: Using coaching questions and format to structure dialogue.
- Tactics for Difficult Conversations: Using mirroring, reflection, labelling, anchoring, silence, and other techniques to keep conversations moving.
